Obviously the answer to that is NO but not everyone seems to know or even believe that. I am a firm non-believer of diets, simply because of it this. The healthiest way to eat is to make sure your daily diet includes a variety of food choices (yes, this means even allowing yourself to indulge just a little bit on the sweets and junks). I think nutritionists have tried to get this message across for years with the food pyramid and such. However, there have been countless trends in eating less calories and limiting diets to only certain items. The danger in this kind of consumption leads to malnutrition, which may result in long-term disease. The major key words in healthy living through food is moderation-a word that everyone knows of, but doesn't take seriously and variety. That's it! It's not that hard!!!
A Q&A I read on CNN prompted this. Check it out: http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/expert.q.a/06/12/diet.repeating.foods.jampolis/index.html
